Roots to Fly marks the first time this deeply personal exhibition is presented in the United States, bringing a body of work originally conceived in Brazil. A visual poem dedicated to the child I once was, the show reflects on memory, origin, and the dreams that shape who we become. At its core, the exhibition explores the relationship between where we come from and the forces that carry us forward. The central sculpture a figure of my younger self standing at the bow of a canoe, holding a lantern with a mangrove tree growing from his back serves as a metaphor for this journey, where roots ground us and imagination gives us wings.
For its U.S. debut, at Visu Gallery, Miami Beach the works take on a new material language. Replacing the original pearl white finishes, the sculptures are rendered in gold and chrome introducing reflections of light, presence, and transformation. These surfaces not only elevate the physicality of the pieces but also mirror the viewer, reinforcing the idea that this story belongs to all of us.
Roots to Fly becomes both a return and a reinvention an intimate narrative carried across borders, evolving in form while holding onto its emotional core.
